Branching out

Been working on this...

Week One

It's still probably 10 degrees cooler than what I would say would be appropriate water table playing temperature.  But we've been indoors and done with winter for far too long to let a nice day go by without a little water table fun.

That & I kinda really wanted to see Reagan in her new swimsuit ;)

 Miss you Daddy.

One from today

Makeover

I bought this bad boy at an Estate sale last fall for $3.
I love it because of how it makes Logan sit up well.  I love that there is a place for Logan to rest his feet...every single one of Logan therapist stressed how important it is for a child with poor posture to have their feet resting somewhere instead of dangling.  I love that it looks like a chair that's high up rather than a high chair.

Best $3 I've spent in awhile.

The chair is from the 1980's and I swear there was food from the 1980's crusted on it.  It needed a makeover.

Commence makeover.
Let's keep in mind that it's the chair that I love.  The goal of the makeover was not to make it look any worse than what it was before...easy peasy.

Takin' a break from helping .....ummm mom this is taking awhile, mind if "I go get some coffee"

In process

After

The color is Kona Brown.  In my opinion it's more Kona than brown - but as it turns out our table and chair set appears to be in the Kona family?  I don't LOVe how it turned out but I think I went above and beyond of my initial goal of not making it look any worse, I think I actually made it look better and I managed to sand away all the crusty 1980's food.  It took 3 days worth of naptimes and when Logan sat back in it tonight for the first time in 3 days, he didn't notice.

You like it love?

Fail

I'm forever trying to make Logan's bed the most comfortable little nest possible in order to squeeze another couple minutes of sleep outta him in the morning.  Yesterday I put a duvet in his bed - Reagan & I thought it was super comfy.

Logan notsomuch.

This is what I saw when I woke up.  Not sure how long he was down there - I certainly didn't put him to sleep on the floor.

About those blood tests

We wanted to have Logan tested to see if he has an allergy to Gluten.  It may very well come back negative but it was just another one of those things we wanted to hopefully rule out.  I've been reading A LOT recently about how Gluten can be a trigger in some people (children & adults) for hyperactivity, GI issues, loss of focus, etc.. etc

.. basically a description of Logan.

While he was in there getting the blood work done for that we also had to do a couple re-tests :/ Somehow his charts got lost with some of his prior results?  So they re-did the Karotype test as well as the Fragile X test.  And because why not - we got his lead levels checked.

6 large viles worth of blood.
The lady that took his blood was in shock that Logan was more interested in the choo-choo train that I brought in for him to hold than the needle going in and sucking out that much blood.  I wasn't surprised - the kid has a strange non-existent relationship with pain.  He's tough like his Mommy :)  Anywho, the lady wanted to give him the entire roll of stickers cause "he did better than most adults doing giving one vile of blood"

We have no results back yet but there is enough literature out there to make me want to start a change in Logan's diet....and if it's Logan's diet we're changing then we're changing the whole FAMILY diet.
So far so good. I'm comforted in the thought that I'm making big changes in a lot of what they eat but as of right now (because we don't HAVE to eliminate them, yet)  Chicken Nuggets, Fish Sticks & Mac-n-Cheese are big hits so we need those until I can find/make good replacements.  But I'm proud to say this WHOLE week (all 3 days of it...lol) I've managed to make entirely Gluten Free Breakfasts, Lunches & Snacks.

Google says it can take up to 6 months to actually see if it's making a real difference. Gluten allergy or not - if it means a chance for a slightly calmer more focused Logan, count all of us in & committed.

Field Trip!

Logan's class has gone on 2 field trips now - first one was to the grocery store :) and today they went to the Alpaca Farm!!

So thankful his Special Education teacher sends me pictures. Here are a few that she sent today:

Texas

After 3 long days of driving m'love has arrived in Houston.

We use to joke about Jerry & Dylan meeting one day only because we never thought it would really happen.

Alas!

2 there, 3 to go.

Sunday

I woke up today reminding myself over&over&over again that today was Sunday.  Kevin has been gone before but he is usually always back for the weekends.  I was going to have to do something different than the normal weekday things to help keep me on track with what day it was.

If Kevin were home we would have gone for a walk in the woods.

So thats what we did.

Plopped by the baseball fields to have our snack & watch.
Baseballs being hit and thrown everywhere + snack = One happy Logan :)

Sunday.

Things the Babies say: Reagan

I'm inside making lunch & Logan and Reagan are outside playing

Reagan:  Moma?Moma?Moma?

Me: Yes Reagan

Reagan: Moma snake

Me: You found a stick?

Reagan: snnnnake outback

Me: Did you say snake?

Reagan: OK.

Me: Show Mommy

Reagan: (pointing) Snake outback in sandbox

Me: SillyGoose thats a worm in the sandbox.  Mommy will put him in a new home.

"ByeBye Daddy have a good day at work"

Is what Reagan said shortly after Kevin left this morning.  Yup.  Today was that day...Kevin & Dylan left a little before 8am this morning.  He should be in Houston, TX Monday evening.

Still no new news on the house.  So for now the next time we'll see each other might be in 2 months....

:(

Spring Break 2013

Logan was on Spring Break all of last week.  We didn't do anything super special but we tried to make everyday fun :)

Weather was chilly & yucky so we spent some quality time wandering around the pet store looking at animals and pushing the baby doll up & down the aisles

Forts, tunnels & race tracks.

YAY! for a nice day.  Went to the park.  Played in the water turned mud table and did some out front playing while waiting for Daddy to get home.

Another nice day :)  A long wagon walk tuckered them out so much so they needed some extra cuddle time post nap.

Logan needed bloodwork done again (re-testing and testing of new things, more on it later)  Super champ filled 6 vials of blood without letting out a tear :) Well deserving of a lollipop & a movie night with Daddy.

Hot Rods.

It use to be a hole in the wall bar & now it's a much bigger bar & restaurant (probably because of all the money we dumped there...lol).  But the place holds a LOT of memories of us & good times.  Only seemed fitting to have one last dinner there.

Weekend

Saturday we got a babysitter and went to a "going away party"  I totally meant to take my camera to take some pics of all the friends we've made & will miss.  But I forgot :(  Don't you worry CT peeps, I'm around awhile longer - I won't leave without your snapshot ;)

Which brings me to the one and only picture that was taken this weekend:

It was Sunday after naps & we attempted to fly a $1.00 kite.
!SURPRISE!
it didn't work.

Tomorrow is the beginning of Kevin's last week here with me & the kiddos.  oy.  I don't feel a good week on the horizon :/

Foto Friday

It might have been just before bedtime but the kid went into the cupboard, pulled out a bag of popcorn said "popcorn", then walked to the mircowave, held it up and said "microwave".  Can't say no to that :)

More details & Some reminising

Friday, April 19th will be Kevin's last day at Electric Boat.  The very next day he will hop in his truck with Dylan & begin his journey to Texas.  For those of you not looking at a calendar - that's next week.

The kiddos and I will stay behind in CT for an undetermined amount of time to help get the house sold & then packed up.  Logan's last day of school is June 11th - if nothing has happen with the house by then...well, I'm not sure what will really happen but I'm calling 2 months of single parenting my breaking point.

This has been "the dream" since...I don't know, forever. We've always wanted our bones to be warm and our family to be near.  So we will do what needs to be done to make that happen.

It isn't going to be easy.
But to exit this week on a fun & happy note:

some old pictures & good memories

January 6, 2006
These were pictures taken in a bar in VA the night Kevin asked me if I would want to move to CT to be closer to him after I graduated.  Not to live with him, but just to be closer.

Yes.

July 9, 2006
He came and picked me & all my belongings up.  I moved into an apt. in Manchester while he lived in his apt in New London.  We moved in together after less than a year :)
