This was Wednesday

As suspected Logan meets all the criteria for inattentiveness and hyperactivity to check the box for ADHD.  I talked with his doctor for awhile - he is young still.  Typical diagnoses for ADD & ADHD doesn't usually happen until a child has entered a full day school setting (ie: kindergarten/1st grade). Counseling and/or medicine is the "cure".  But Logan has what doctors call a co-morbid condition meaning there is more than one something going on - Ventriculomeagly, Autism, developmental delays, ADHD.  So what might help someone with Autism will most likely not be something that will help with Logan because of all the other underlying things going on.  So the same idea applies with putting him on medicine for ADHD - a stimulant drug that might help a child with ADHD might not help Logan.  But then again - it might, a little.

I left it with the doctor that doing drug trial and errors seems a bit much for a 4 year old.  But that I would talk with Kevin and schedule yet another follow up appointment if we wanted to try something....

Pro for medicine:

  • If it's going to help him focus and therefore help him learn then he could potentially really benefit from it this upcoming school year.
  • What if it did make a HUGE difference?

Con for medicine:

  • He is only 4 years old
  • There could be side effects (which I know nothing about yet)

Doc said to try adding Fish Oil into his diet?  And to do research - she suggested the book Healing ADD by Daniel Amen.

Will do.
