& here is the down-low on low-down
He is in a Life Skills program at a new school Kauffman Elementary (previous school doesn't offer Life Skills). He is one of three kids in his class - a girl his age & an older boy. He has Ms. Mildren as a teacher and an aide in his class. The bus picks him up at our driveway at 7:30am and drops him off at our driveway at 3:45pm.
They work on typical Kindergarten things (ABC's, numbers, sorting etc...) but also work on life skills (potty training, dressing, social skills etc...) Everything is very individualized. He is mixed in with the mainstream Kindergarten classes (with an aide) during lunch, recess, and specials (art, PE, music etc...).
It's Friday now. He is beyond tired when he gets home. He walks in and it's shouty Logan until he goes to bed :/ It's kinda awful. I guess we expected it some -it's a huge adjustment for him. I was foolish to think it would go smoother. He literally could be put to bed as soon as he walks in the door.
His teacher has called to let me know that they have started potty training with him and he has had 3 successes in the potty!!!!! She says he's doing "ok" - he has trouble focusing, sitting still & listening - he is loud.
Welcome to my world teach.
It's strange listening to the teacher talk to me about things she is figuring out about Logan. Someone else is living my world now. I'm happy to pass on the torch to someone else. New ideas, new routines, new rules....another mind to help figure this little mind out.
Anywho. Thats the first week. It's been strange at home without him. His energy is missing. It's quiet. The days move very slowly. We still have at least 2 extras here that I'm watching along with Reagan....but it's SO different. It's the new norm & I'm still getting use to it. He's still getting use to it. We're still getting use to it.
We'll get it figured out and then it will be Thanksgiving break - lol. That's usually how these things go down ;)
I'm so proud of you Erin and of course Logan. It's a change for both of you---and with a little time and alot of patience many things can happen. Enjoy your time with Reagan - she's you--all over... love to all
